This indigo kantha blanket is made and dyed by hand. It’s dyed with natural indigo (indigofera tinctoria). The blanket is made from six layers of sari fabric, embroidered together with kantha embroidery. The kantha stitch is a running stitch, here white thread is used. The embroidery of this blanket has taken eight days.
All indigo blankets are unique, the pattern of the sari is still visible through the indigo dye. This means the blanket you’ll receive will be a little different from the indigo kantha blanket pictured, but they are all very comparable in terms of colour and pattern. Because indigo is colourfast, the blankets can be washed in the washing machine.
size: approximately 200 x 200 cm
All indigo kantha blankets are made in Bangladesh, on a fair trade basis. The women who make the blankets work for an organisation that provides them with a safe and dignified job and a fair salary. Many of them have been in forced prostitution and are given a second chance to build a life. They receive trainings and childcare.
